Reports to: ES M&M Director
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours: 07:00–17:00, Monday to Friday (47.5 hours per week, 30-minute lunch break)
Salary: TBC (dependent on experience)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Project Manager to lead the delivery of ecological contracting and environmental management projects across the UK. This is a dynamic role that combines hands-on site leadership with strong office-based coordination, requiring technical competence, strategic planning and confident decisionmaking.
You will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard. This includes overseeing site teams, managing project resources, coordinating logistics, maintaining safety and environmental compliance, and acting as a key point of
communication for clients and stakeholders. The role also involves contributing to continuous improvement and supporting the operational development of the business.
Success in this position requires strong leadership, professionalism, excellent organisational skills and the ability to solve problems under pressure while maintaining a high level of quality.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Delivery
• Manage and oversee multiple ecological and environmental projects from mobilisation to completion.
• Coordinate effectively with clients, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors and landowners.
• Ensure projects meet required ecological, technical, safety and quality standards.
• Conduct site inspections, quality checks and compliance reviews to verify specification accuracy.
• Identify risks, delays, or emerging issues and implement proactive solutions to keep projects on track.
• Prepare, communicate, and lead RAMS, toolbox talks, daily briefings and dynamic risk assessments.
• Represent the company during site meetings, inspections, audits and progress reviews.
Technical Expertise & Decision-Making
• Apply advanced knowledge of ecological contracting, environmental
management, habitat creation and industry best practice.
• Make informed decisions on plant selection, materials, methods, licences and
operational requirements.
• Ensure all activities comply with relevant wildlife legislation, licences,
environmental controls and biosecurity measures.
• Maintain professional competence and stay informed on industry developments
and regulatory changes.
Leadership, Team Development & Performance
• Lead and support Supervisors and Ecology Operatives, maintaining strong morale,
professionalism and teamwork.
• Provide on-site guidance and lead by example - never assigning tasks you would
not undertake yourself.
• Support staff performance reviews by gathering feedback, assessing progress and
identifying development needs.
• Monitor required staff training, highlight skill gaps and recommend relevant
training to the Director.
• Mentor new starters and help build a capable, confident and well-coordinated workforce.
Operational Coordination & Resource Management
• Plan and manage the working schedule of site teams, ensuring efficient allocation of personnel and resources.
• Oversee procurement of materials, plant, equipment, PPE and operational supplies.
• Allocate plant, materials, accommodation and logistics strategically to maximise productivity and minimise cost.
• Monitor resource usage, adjust plans as necessary and ensure responsible use of company assets.
• Arrange accommodation and travel for staff during remote or “working away” projects.
• Maintain safe and proper use of company vehicles, tools, plant, and equipment.
Environmental Compliance & Record Keeping
Maintain accurate environmental and operational records including:
- waste transfer documentation
- biosecurity logs
- permits and licences
- site diaries and briefing sheets
- maintenance / inspection reports
- Ensure compliance with pollution prevention controls and environmental best practice.
- Promote environmental awareness throughout the team.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
• Serve as a professional point of contact for clients, providing clear updates and
resolving any issues.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships to encourage repeat business and
long-term partnerships.
• Ensure client expectations are managed consistently and professionally
throughout each project.
Financial Responsibility & Governance
• Safeguard company finances during all operational and administrative activities.
• Ensure all purchases, procurement decisions and financial commitments receive
prior approval from the Company Director.
• Prepare fee proposals, estimates, and costings for review - none to be issued
externally without Director confirmation.
• Maintain accurate financial records for site expenditure, purchases and operational
costs.
Office-Based Administration & Reporting
• Use company systems effectively (including Oracle NetSuite and other operational
software).
• Oversee timesheets, expenses, personnel documentation and company filing
systems.
• Handle incoming enquiries, coordinate project logistics and support administrative
duties across the company group.
• Prepare and submit weekly progress reports, photographs and operational
documentation.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of business systems, workflows and
best practices.
Travel Requirements
• Willingness to travel to sites across the UK.
• Willingness to stay away from home when required (accommodation provided
- Full UK driving licence (mandatory)
Required Qualifications & Experience
• Experience in ecological contracting, habitat creation, conservation fieldwork or environmental project delivery.
• Proven on-site supervision and leadership experience.
• Strong organisational and project management skills.
• Competent in operating relevant plant, tools and ecological equipment.
• Strong understanding of RAMS, construction-site procedures, and health & safety requirements.
• Full UK driving licence.

• CSCS Card (appropriate level)
• SSSTS – Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme

• CPCS – Excavator
• CPCS – Dumper
• Chainsaw Qualifications: CS30 & CS31
• Woodchipper / Chipper Certification
• IOSH Managing Safely
• Emergency First Aid at Work +F (Forestry)
